The Buffalo News reports that after ignoring an EPA demand to submit testing protocols, the EPA raided the Tonawanda Coke’s plant. Residents who have been complaining about odors and soot in the air and on their property are relieved that something may finally be done to help them.

J.D. Crane, the owner of Tonawanda Coke, also owns Erie Coke in Pennsylvania. The EPA filed suit against Erie Coke on September 22 and if successful, the company would be liable for $32,000 day for continuing pollution to the surrounding area. Further the Pennsylvania EPA levied a $6 million fine.
