Katie St. John’s devotion to serve as a trusted advocate for her clients is rooted in a childhood experience. She watched her family breathe a sigh of relief after talking with an attorney, knowing the attorney was someone the family could trust in their time of need. It was in that moment Katie knew she wanted to be that person for others, putting her on the path to a profession in law.
Her journey landed her in the civil litigation field, clerking at Simon Law while attending St. Louis University Law School. At Simon, she found her passion for medical malpractice and personal injury cases by watching clients come to the firm seeking understanding, answers and justice. To Katie, trust is the foundation of attorney-client privilege.
Katie believes another key to succeeding in this profession is understanding both sides of law, so she built her skills first as a defense attorney. The time she spent working for defendants gave her invaluable insight into how best to serve as a plaintiff’s attorney as well as prepare her clients for whatever the defense may throw at them. Now, as a plaintiff’s attorney, her approach with her clients is that of a team captain working together to form a plan on both offense and defense – just as she did while playing competitive soccer in college.
Katie joined Simon Law in April 2025 after securing a $1.1 million settlement in a workplace discrimination case, a $1.1 million verdict in a suicide wrongful death case, as well as a $60 million necrotizing enterocolitis case in Illinois in just 12 months. The wrongful death verdict was the first medical malpractice plaintiff’s verdict in Madison County in 14 years.
Katie is married with three children and lives with her family in St. Charles.
