St. Charles County, Mo. – Simon Law and The Lange Law Firm have filed a lawsuit against a second caterer connected to an E. coli outbreak that has affected over 100 people in the region.
At least three teachers tested positive for E. coli poisoning following a parent-teacher conference on Nov. 7 at a school in St. Charles County. Concetta’s Catering provided the salad believed to be responsible for the outbreak that followed that event. The contaminated food was only provided to the teachers during the conferences.
Our client, a first-grade teacher, had to be hospitalized three times, totaling 15 days, after her infection progressed to Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome, or HUS – a potentially fatal condition that affects the kidneys.
In addition to this victim, Simon Law and The Lange Law Firm represent multiple victims of the E. coli outbreak that affected more than 100 people in St. Louis County. In those cases, people attended five separate events catered by Andre’s Catering, which got its lettuce from California-based Taylor Farms.
“The victims in the St. Charles County incident have been affected with the same type of E. Coli as our clients in St. Louis County,” said Simon Law Attorney Erica Slater. “We want to ensure the victims of this outbreak are also able to focus on their health while we can take all the appropriate steps to ensure they are compensated for their injuries.
“That is why it is important to contact us now, so we can protect your legal rights and you can recover. Beyond that, this is why restaurants have insurance and we are confident these local companies can regain the public’s trust by getting to the source of the contaminated food.”
Attorney Jory Lange of the Texas-based Lange Law Firm is a nationally known attorney specializing in food poisoning cases across the country.
“It is time to start holding the companies supplying tainted products to consumers accountable,” Lange said. “In the last 10 years, there have been at least 78 food poisoning outbreaks linked to lettuce.
“Most of these outbreaks were caused by animal waste contaminating lettuce fields. The farms that grow our food need to do a better job of preventing their lettuce from becoming contaminated with animal waste. It is terrible that we continue to see people hospitalized or worse when food poisoning outbreaks like this are completely preventable.”
“We want the victims of these outbreaks to know the scary thing about E. coli is there is nothing you can do to tell whether the food you are consuming is safe.”
Lange has represented thousands of food poisoning victims in E. coli, Salmonella, Listeria, Shigella, Cyclospora and Vibrio outbreaks across the United States and represents over 335 people who contracted Shigella food poisoning in the LongHorn Steakhouse Shigella outbreak in St. Clair County, Illinois.
