Attorney Tim Cronin of The Simon Law Firm, P.C. recently represented Reggie Bush, former NFL running back, in a personal injury lawsuit against the Los Angeles Rams. Bush suffered a career-ending knee injury in a game at the Edward Jones Dome in 2015 when he was pushed out of bounds and slipped on a nearby concrete slab. The injury resulted in a torn ACL, which ultimately ended Reggie Bush’s NFL career.

Bush filed a lawsuit in 2016 against the Rams, who were in charge of the facility at the time his injury took place. Recently, a St. Louis jury found the Rams completely liable for the injury, ordering the team to pay Bush $4.95 million in compensatory damages and $7.5 million in punitive damages, for a total of $12.5 million.

Only a few weeks before Bush’s injury took place, another NFL player was injured on the same slab of concrete. Josh McCown, the quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, slid across the concrete and injured his shoulder. Two weeks after Bush injured his knee, the area was covered with rubber padding. Unfortunately, the damage had already been done.

Jurors were asked to review footage of the incident and to look at Reggie Bush’s career after the injury took place. He had been in line for a prestigious 3-year deal prior to the incident but ultimately ended up retiring from the NFL earlier than planned because of his injury. “Reggie lost his ability to do what he loved and to bargain for a contract that he worked his entire life for. These players get chewed up. They only have so many chances,” Attorney Tim Cronin said.

Bush says the case is about more than just his football injury, it’s about player safety. He told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, “Football’s a rough sport. It’s already as brutal as it can possibly be. We don’t need any concrete or anything else out there that can make it even worse.”

Reggie Bush retired from the NFL in 2017 and, at 33 years of age, now works as an analyst NFL Network.
